Welcome to Year 2.
Monday 14th January
Reminder: Please make sure your child has their PE kit in school on a Monday morning. This is when we do PE. Thank you.
Friday 11th January
Wednesday 9th January
As part of our history learning we are going to create archaeological shoe boxes containing evidence of history within living memory. We would like each child to bring in the following items:
- a shoe box
- an object related to a grandparent (or another elderly member of the family)
- an object related to a parent
- an object related to themselves
The object shouldn't be anything particularly large or valuable; just something that reminds your child of that person. If you have any concerns or questions about the objects we would like you to bring in then please come and talk to us as soon as possible.
All shoe boxes and objects MUST be in school by Friday 18th January. This will take the place of homework for the first 2 weeks.
Tuesday 8th January
Happy New Year!!
We hope you all had a enjoyable break. We have started a new topic this term based on history learning, called 'Dazzling Detectives!' Today we sent the children on an archaeological dig to find artefacts from the past. They discovered lots of interesting and unusual items so please ask your child what they found. Here are some pictures of our dig.
This week your child will be coming home with some extra practice materials. There will be a sheet of addition sums and a sheet of subtraction sums along with a hundred square - please help your child to practise using the hundred square to answer the sums. They will also receive the Year 2 common exception words. These are words which the children are expected to be able to read and write by the end of the school year (July). Please practise reading them with your child regularly; they're very important and are common words!
If you have any questions or need any extra copies please come in and see Mrs Whiteway or Mrs Haran as soon as you can. Thank you for your support.
We have been learning how to use a hundred square to add two 2-digit numbers. This has taken great resilience and we are nearly there! The class wrote some instructions to help them follow the method. Your child will be given a list of sums and a hundred square to take home and complete as an extra homework task. Please support them with this learning; it is an ESSENTIAL skill for Year 2.
We used our model acrostic poem about Pirates to write our own class poem. We created a word bank for each letter of the word PIRATES and used this to write a poem collaboratively.
In Literacy we have been learning about Acrostic poems. We used this text map to help us perform our model poem using actions and expressions. Ask your child to perform it for you!
Here is our homework grid for the second Autumn term. Children should choose one activity a week to complete and return it to school on Thursdays. If you feel you need any extra resources to complete an activity please let us know.
Year 2 will NOW be doing PE every Monday morning, NOT Tuesday morning. Please make sure your child brings their PE kit to school every Monday morning and leaves it in school all week.

We have recently sent home some new RWI books for you to read with your child. Alongside these we have created a booklet with some useful information about reading with your child at home. Click here to download the booklet.
