Talking Partners Programme

What is Talking Partners?

Talking Partners helps children become more confident and able users of English.

How does it work?

Three children work with the adult Talk Partner for 20 – 25 minutes, two to three times a week, for ten weeks.

The activities are fun and interactive and use techniques that we know are helpful for all children including:

  • Newstelling
  • Role play
  • Talking about pictures
  • Learning new vocabulary and grammar

Young Teachers

Why Young Teachers?

At Oxford Road Community School we believe that all children can become brilliant readers with a life- long love for reading.

We know that young children’s learning can be greatly enhanced if they have opportunities to be taught by their older peers.

What do Young teachers do?

Young Teachers are are trained to:

  • listen to their younger brothers and sisters read at home
  • listen to younger children read at school
  • use their home language to explain new learning and vocabulary to younger children in other areas of the curriculum as well, such as Numeracy.
