At the Oxford Road we are committed to promoting a sense of global citizenship and understanding of the developing world; learning where we have come from through history, and how this has impacted our world differently in different places. We hope to develop the children’s skills and knowledge for investigation and therefore foster an understanding of differences in the people throughout the world.

Through our teaching of History at ORCS we aim:

  • To encourage children to question why things are the way they are in the present. To explore this in the context of the past and to make links in order to promote a sense of chronology.
  • To develop an appreciation of how we gain information about the past and to provide opportunities for children to make judgements about sources and evidence.
  • To promote a sense of investigation through researching and evaluating, asking and answering questions.
