We recognise the vital contribution of physical education to a child’s physical, cognitive, social and emotional development as well as the role it can play in a child’s spiritual and moral development.

We aim to provide a broad and balanced P.E. curriculum based upon the teaching and learning of skills. Children will be given the opportunity to think and move creatively through lessons. We believe that through the variety of opportunities that PE offers, children can develop a sense of personal achievement, building resilience, fair play, teamwork and importantly establish lifelong healthy habits and participation in sport and physical activity.

Through our teaching of PE at ORCS we aim for children to:

  • acquire and develop skills, performing with an increasing physical competence and confidence in a range of physical activities and contexts;
  • learn how to select and apply skills, tactics and compositional ideas to suit activities;
  • develop ideas creatively;
  • set targets, compete against others, both individually and as a team member;
  • understand what it takes to persevere, succeed and acknowledge the success of others;
  • discover own aptitudes and preferences;
  • develop a positive attitude to participation in physical activity.
  • further develop skills by joining sports clubs which have links with the school.
  • develop the ability to work as a team player, taking the lead and learning to work collaboratively with others.
