Learning
Welcome to the learning section of our school website. Here you will find information about what children learn in each year group, alongside key details about each subject taught across our curriculum.
At Oxford Road Community School, we are committed to ensuring every child develops a broad foundation of knowledge and the skills needed to apply their learning confidently, both within school and in the wider world. Across our foundation subjects, we draw on high‑quality resources—including Kapow—to support and enrich our curriculum, ensuring lessons are well‑structured, engaging, and accessible to all pupils.
We are incredibly proud of our curriculum, and our pupils talk positively and enthusiastically about their learning:
- “I like reading because we get to imagine the story in our heads!” – Year 2 pupil
- “We worked together so well on our science experiment—it felt like real teamwork!” – Year 5 pupil
Our New Teaching & Learning Strategies Booklet
We are excited to share our new Teaching and Learning Strategies booklet, which outlines the evidence‑informed approaches used throughout Oxford Road Community School. These strategies—such as Cold Calling, Show Me Boards, Think‑Pair‑Share, probing questions, and structured feedback—are designed to promote active participation, deepen understanding, and ensure every pupil is supported to succeed.
The booklet also summarises the educational research that shapes our practice, including principles from cognitive science, explicit instruction, and formative assessment. By making our teaching approaches clear and transparent, we hope to strengthen our partnership with families and help our community understand how we support pupils to make strong, sustained progress.
