MFL

Our Vision

Within the Federation, our MFL curriculum aims to promote a love for learning a new language and exploring cultural similarities and differences; allowing the children to develop their confidence and curiosity through language and oracy. MFL enables children to learn a wide variety of skills through collaborative learning, understanding the basics of the Spanish language, grammar and structure, transferring these skills throughout the years. By the end of their time at the Federation of Oxford Road Community School and Wilson Primary School, we aim for all students to have a love of language and a celebrated view of the diversity of our world, as well as the valuable skill of understanding and speaking a new language.

 Curriculum Intent

Our Modern Foreign Language curriculum aims to broaden and deepen knowledge providing cultural experiences allowing children to flourish and have a love for learning a new language (Spanish), whilst developing their confidence and independence within their language.

Across our Federation we use Language Angel to teach MFL. We want pupils to develop their cultural knowledge and understanding of languages encouraging and building a sequence of new skills and vocabulary that can be applied throughout their learning and on into their futures.

Curriculum Implementation

Learning Spanish has given us an opportunity to know how to write in a different language.

Children in key stage two learn Spanish. Building on the National Curriculum for MFL, children learn to communicate their ideas, facts and feelings in both speech and writing, focusing on different themes and routines. Children are given opportunities to practice and engage their learning orally with talk partners as well as a class to revise their learning.

Curriculum Impact

MFL enables children to learn a wide variety of skills through collaborative learning. By the end of key stage 2, we aim for all students to have a love of language and a celebrated view of the diversity of our world, as well as the valuable skill of understanding and speaking a new language.

The teachers make the lessons memorable as we are all learning something new together.
