Oxford Road Community School

Maple & Willow

At Oxford Road Community School we strive for inclusion for all children in our school. We have an Alternative Resource Provision that supports the needs of children from across the school. Children attend Maple or Willow class, where they are supported by highly skilled practitioners who adapt and develop individualised learning opportunities for each child.

Children who attend Maple and Willow are supported by a key worker. This member of staff knows their key child well, they are able to plan, adapt and deliver high quality interventions to support their key child's specific needs.

Most children who are in Maple and Willow also attend some lessons in their mainstream class. They are supported by a member of staff; the class teacher skilfully adapts the curriculum to meet each child's individual needs. Assessments are used to map targets and track small step progress for each child.

Children follow their main stream class curriculum for the foundation subjects where it meets their needs. In reading, writing and maths, children follow a curriculum built around their academic needs. There is a keen focus on children's pastoral development, interventions such as Attention Bucket, sensory circuits, sensory play, cooking and work station activities are planned to meet children's specific needs.
