Admissions
Admission to Nursery
Children normally join the nursery when they are three years old and parents are advised to register their child for the waiting list at the age of two. Deciding on the right placement for nursery and school is important and we do everything we can to help. Visits to the nursery and main school are welcome and can be arranged by telephone. Our nursery has 3 hour places (universal offer) AM or PM session or 30 hour places for those who are eligible. Please find our Nursery Admissions policy.
Am I eligible for a 15 hour place or a 30 hour place?
Go to the childcare choices website to find out whether your child is eligible for a 15hr or 30 hr Nursery place.
Admission to Reception Class
Children are admitted to a Reception class in the September of the year in which they are five and are determined by Brighter Futures for Children Admissions Department on behalf of Reading Borough Council. All applications must be made through Brighter Futures for Children. Please note, there are often more applications than places in Reception Class and attending our Nursery does not give your child priority for admission.
Children who have been allocated a place by Brighter Futures for Children in our Reception class will have had the chance to visit their new class and meet their teacher on a number of occasions. We offer a holistic transition process for all children including a transition day, visit to your child's current Nursery and home visit. We use this transition to build relationships, getting to know your child and family.
Admission to Main School
All In-Year Admissions are arranged by Brighter Futures for Children Admissions Team on behalf of Reading Borough Council. Applications for a school place must be made to the parent’s/carer’s home local authority. Please apply at the Civic Centre, Queen’s Walk, Reading RG1 7AE or telephone 0118 937 37 77. Secondary Transfer
At the beginning of year six parents make a choice about which secondary school their child will attend. Representatives of the local secondary schools visit Oxford Road Community School and some invite children for an induction day. We ensure that these arrangements are made smoothly and all information is passed on so that parents and children can make the right choices.
