PE

Our PE days are Monday and Friday.

Please make sure your child comes into school wearing their PE kit on those days.

Reading

We love reading in Year 1!

Year 1's reading books will be changed every Friday.
The children MUST have their books in school everyday so we can read with them.

Click here for some useful tips on how you can support your child with Reading at home. We suggest you read with your child at least 4-5 times a week.

If you need any support with reading at home, please come and speak with Miss Panetta.

Reading at Home presentation for parents and carers - please click here for supporting your child with reading at home.

Spellings

Click here to view a list of the Year 1 Common Exception Words - your child is learning to read and spell these words in school. It would be great if they could practice these at home too!

Maths

In Spring 2, we are learning to add and subtract numbers to 20. We will learn to read, write and interpret mathematical statements involving addition (+), subtraction (–) and equals (=) signs. We will also practise solving lots of one-step problems that involve addition and subtraction, using concrete objects and pictorial representations, and missing number problems such as 7 =   – 9.

Throughout the term we will continue to become fluent in representing and using number bonds and related subtraction facts within 20 through The Mastery of Number programme.

Please help your child at home by practising counting  to 100 forwards and backwards. Help them to spot 2 digit numbers in their home and out and about. Ask them to identify the number and tell you how many tens and how many ones it has. Help your child to learn the number bonds to 5, then 10 and when they are completely ready, to 20. The game 'Hit The Button' is great for this.

This fun shark game is about matching the numeral to the correct tens and ones shown.
